Studies conducted in 2000 by Nutrition Australia determined that
nearly fifty percent of women and over sixty percent of men are
either overweight or obese, creating a society where it is almost
more normal not to be of a healthy weight and to suffer from a
weight problem.
It is anticipated that within five to six years, seventy percent
of the Australian population will be overweight.
Reasons for the health decline and overweight increase include the
constant intake of unhealthy and greasy foods, but more
importantly because of a lack of exercising.
Kristie Bell, a nutritionist for Nutrition Australia believes that
“physical effort has been taken out of nearly all our daily
activities,” With this in mind, it can be seen that it is
extremely important to exercise for at least 3 hours per week to
tone and maintain muscles as well as to keep fit and look after
your heart.
